What is the purpose of having a Career Academy in Warren County?
Students who attend the Career Academy will be exposed to a four year high school/college academic and technical challenge. All assignments and activities are specifically designed to prepare students to earn a business and industry certification and/or credential before graduating from high school. It also gives students a head start into post secondary training and prepares students to make an easy transition into Community College degree, diploma and certificate programs or enter the work force.
What is the purpose of having a College Prep Academy in Warren County?
Students who attend the College Prep Academy will be exposed to a four year rigorous high school/college academic challenge. All assignments and activities are specifically designed to move students to think critically and at a higher level. This academy is designed for students that want to pursue a career that requires at least a Bachelors Degree for a four year college or university.
What are expectations of students that attend a Career Academy?
Students who enter the Career Academy must be prepared to explore different career options in the 9th grade, determine their career focus and be ready to complete very specific career preparation courses and "laboratory based" instruction in the 10th-12th grade. Students should be prepared to exhibit a proven high level of interest in all subject matter and be motivated to learn and participate in classroom discussions, laboratory assignments and projects, internships, and other work based learning opportunities.
What are expectations of students that attend the College Prep Academy?
Students who enter the College Prep Academy must be prepared to accept the academic challenge inherent in Academy courses. Students should: exhibit a proven high level of interest in all subject matter and be motivated to learn and participate in classroom discussions; possess the background, academic preparation and skills to handle the rigorous classroom assignments and discussions; and demonstrate the characteristics of maturity, self-discipline, persistence, and independence that are required for success in this Academy.
What are the advantages of enrolling in a Career Academy? Students in the Career Academy will have opportunities to complete High School Career and Technical Educational courses and up to eighteen college credits that will count towards a Certificate and/or Diploma at the Community College level. Students will also be able to complete various Business and Industry recognized Certifications and Credentials at no cost to them or their parents. Warren County Schools is an authorized certification testing center for several certification and credentials that will allow them to complete the certification exams on campus.
What are the advantages of enrolling in the College Prep Academy?
Students in the College Prep Academy will have opportunities to complete High School Honors Level and up to thirty three college credits that will count towards a Bachelors Degree at a North Carolina Public University or a participating independent college or University. Honors and AP courses carry additional weight when computing grade point average and class rank.
Is the Career Academy aligned with the North Carolina Career Clusters and Programs of Study?
The focus areas within the Career Academy are aligned with the National Career Clusters Model that North Carolina adapted and includes in its state plan. Below are the Career Clusters aligned with each focus area within the Academy. Students completing the Career Academy will meet the requirements to be considered a Career and Technical Education Concentrator and take the National Career Readiness Assessment (Work Keys) in the 12th grade.

How do students apply to the Career and College Prep Academy? Attendance at a High School Parent Information meeting is highly recommended. Information about high school and academy choices will be presented at the meetings as well as an opportunity to visit a high school/academy of your choice. Parents and students are encouraged to ask questions that are important to your student to know prior to selecting a high school or academy. 8th grade students at Warren County Middle School will have an opportunity to tour all Warren County High Schools and Academies before making their high school choice selection.
